Bass strings video

The following video shows how our strings wobble. The effect is caused by the frame rate of a Canon 5d mkII, a photo camera that also captures video. Remarkable movement, which isn’t really visible in real life.

Zeta bass

Now you all know the electric uprights built by Zeta, right? And you probably know their crossover bass as well…
Some of us think that EUBs need to be played upright. That gives us a cool look and a better sound. Well, have a look at the following video, which shows us a Zeta Crossover being played by Will Karling. Nice playing and a great sound, Will…reminds me a bit of the bass in the recording of Cowboys and Angels by George Michael.

The Beatcatcher, a user at the Harmony Central forums has made a PVC electric upright bass. This probably is one of the least expensive basses I’ve seen.

Esperanza Spalding

Just a quick pointer for those who haven’t met this wonderful lady. She sings, she plays the bass (and how!) but she is also frequently seen playing an electric upright (primarily an Eminence Bass, if I’m correct). Some videos:

I’ve also seen Esperanza playing an acoustic bass with a ’short’ body (a bit like the Anderson bass). You can see her playing this bass here:

Yes yes yes, it’s spring again in the Netherlands. Ibo asked some of his friends – including me – to join him at a jam on the Noordermarkt in Amsterdam. The weather was great, the atmosphere even better. And the Applecake at Winkel was delicious. Petra made a small video, capturing the busy atmosphere at the Noordermarkt. I play on a regular double bass here, as there’s no need to bring ebass to acoustic gigs. Yeah I know, this video is quite off topic, but it’s so sweet! Who says the Dutch are surly?
